What are Matching Gifts?
Multiplying donations dollar-for-dollar
A lot of companies match their employees' charitable donations. These companies will match your friend's donation and double it, more or less, depending on the company. To find out if your company has a matching gift policy, click here or check with your HR department.
Parts of a matching gift:
A matching gift is just like any other offline donation, with one addition: You need to send LLS a matching gift form and a copy of the check. A Matching Gift consists of the following:
- Your check. Make a copy of this, and send the check to Paycor.
- The form. Most companies have an online or paper form LLS
must complete to prove we got your donation. Get this form from your
company. If you're not sure where to start, try HR.
- If the form is online, just fill it out and click submit. We'll get a copy. Just make sure the name and address you enter matches your account at LLS—Check your etools account if you're not sure.
- If the form is paper, fill it out and include it in your package to us. Again, write the same information you wrote on your Team In Training volunteer registration form, or we might not be able to connect the form with your LLS account. Check your etools account to see what you wrote.
- The check copy. put this in an envelope with the form (if the form is paper), and mail it to LLS.
Matching Gifts process
Once the donation is received at Paycor and LLS receives the matching gift paperwork, we'll communicate with the company to get the matching donation.
Most matching companies have a proven history with our office and we'll credit your account total with the matching gift as soon as we process the form.
If a company is new to our office, we'll have to wait until LLS gets the actual matching check from the company before we can update your total. In some cases, this could take months—don't wait to submit your paperwork! If we don't receive the matching check before your final fundraising deadline and you haven't met your minimum, we must ask you to make a personal contribution to meet your minimum at that time. (You'll be eligible to request reimbursement for that amount as soon as we receive the matching check.)
Tips
- Begin the process as quickly as possible! Some companies match annually or quarterly and you'll want us to get the matching check before your final fundraising deadline.
- Ensure the matching gift requests you submit comply with your company's guidelines.
- Before you submit a matching gift form, your sign in to your eFundraising page and make sure the information on your My Account tab matches what you put on your matching gift form. If the information doesn't match up, we'll have a hard time assigning the match to you and the process will be delayed.
